HARFORD COUNTY CHOSEN FOR SOCCER TOURNAMENT
Cedar Lane Park selected as venue for major youth soccer event
Harford County will host the 2013 and 2014 U. S. Youth Soccer Region I championship. The national tournament will be held at the Cedar Lane Regional Park. "This is a major achievement for the people of Harford County," stated Harford County Executive David R. Craig. "The soccer tournament should bring thousands of visitors to Harford County and more than $20 million dollars in revenue to the area during the two-years the tournament will be hosted at Cedar Lane Park," the county executive remarked.
COUNTY EXECUTIVE CRAIG RECEIVES NATIONAL AWARD FOR BRAC PREPARATIONS
Harford County Executive David R. Craig has received the John Leigh Public Sector Official of the Year award. Craig and Harford County Government were recognized last weekend at the Association of Defense Communities national conference in Boston for the county’s preparations for BRAC. Commenting on the award, County Executive Craig stated, "We are humbled and honored to be recognized nationally for the work we have done since 2005 in preparation for the implementation of BRAC at the Aberdeen Proving Ground. Our goal is to work in partnership with the military, the state of Maryland and local government to ensure Harford County is well prepared to meet the challenges and opportunities that BRAC brings to the region. I feel strongly that Harford County must do all we can in preparing for BRAC to support our warfighters," Craig remarked.

HARFORD COUNTY BUSINESS APPRECIATION WEEK
Harford County Executive David R. Craig, James Richardson, Director of the Office of Economic Development and Harford County Government, will celebrate Business Appreciation Week, September 22 - 26, 2008. Each day of the week, the county executive and representatives of the Office of Economic Development will visit businesses throughout the county and recognize them for their hard work and successes.
"The business community is critical to the overall wellbeing of Harford County and Harford County Government," stated County Executive David R. Craig. "I am taking this week to hear first hand from the business community about the challenges and opportunities that confront them in the current state of our economy" the county executive remarked.
September 2008HARFORD COUNTY KICKS OFF BUSINESS APPRECIATION WEEK
Harford County Executive David R. Craig accompanied by James Richardson, Director of the Office of Economic Development and members of the staff, kicked off Harford County Business Appreciation Week on Monday in the Town of Bel Air. The county executive, accompanied by Mayor Rob Preston and Commissioner Robert Reier spent most of the day visiting and paying tribute to six businesses in Bel Air. Each of the businesses received a plaque from Harford County Government in recognition of their achievements and support to the community. Tuesday, the county executive continued his visit to area businesses with several stops in Havre de Grace. Joining the county executive was Mayor Wayne Daugherty of Havre de Grace.
Additionally, the county executive and Office of Economic Development personnel will visit eight other businesses in Edgewood and along the RT 40 corridor between Wednesday and Friday. Harford Business Appreciation Week culminates Friday with a seminar at the Clarion Hotel in Aberdeen titled "The Economic Outlook for Harford County".
"This is a great week for Harford County Government," stated County Executive Craig. "We have been able to visit, meet with and discuss matters of critical importance to our business community which ultimately affects all of in Harford County. I look forward to building and strengthening our partnership with local businesses," the county executive remarked.
May 2008R4 ANNOUNCES MAJOR FACILITY EXPANSION
R4, a defense services company providing reliable, rapid-response fielding support and soldier-to-soldier training solutions to the United States Army (USA) announced today that it has signed an agreement for a major facility expansion project in support of the company's ongoing efforts and programs at Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG) in Aberdeen, MD. Located in Lakeside Business Park in near-by Edgewood, MD, the new 20,000 square foot facility will enable R4 to continue and enhance its ongoing client support in an advantageous location; as well as provide expansion capability for future customer operations and training. Due to the hands-on and time sensitive nature of the focused support and technical training R4 provides to US soldiers based at APG, a fully operational facility adjacent to the installation will provide an immediate benefit to those who need it most.
Harford County Executive David Craig noted that R4 represents an early move related to BRAC. "Harford County is pleased to welcome this new company to our county and this is an exciting time to see new technologies and new solutions fielded in Harford County that directly protects our warfighters. May 2008FAMILY-OWNED MANUFACTURER EXPANDS IN WILLIAM PACA BUSINESS PARK
Trilogy Spice Extracts Inc., and Trilogy Flavors Inc., recently expanded operations at their Abingdon facility located in Harford County, Maryland. For the past two years, Trilogy Spice Extracts has occupied 35,000 square feet. Trilogy Flavors has executed a new seven year lease of 25,900 square feet, adjacent to the existing space. Trilogy Spice Extracts will continue to operate in the current facility and Trilogy Flavors will occupy the newly leased space. The two companies will continue to meet the needs of their respective customer's requests for specialty blends at their facilities in the William Paca Business Park.
Trilogy Spice Extracts Inc. and Trilogy Flavors Inc. are owned by the Pisano family, the same family that owns Citrus and Allied Essences Ltd. The main production facility of Citrus and Allied Essences is located on a 7 acre site at the Riverside Business Park in Belcamp Maryland. Citrus and Allied Essences Ltd. is one of the premier suppliers of ingredients to the flavor and fragrance industries.
Commenting regarding the expansion of a Harford based business, County Executive David R. In order to better assess the infrastructure needs that BRAC will bring to Aberdeen Proving Ground and the surrounding area, Harford County Executive David Craig and Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley recently gained a new and unique perspective of the situation. Speaking at a pre-flight news conference, County Executive Craig stated, "This has been a banner week for BRAC in Harford County". Earlier in the week, the Craig Administration presented Harford County's plan for BRAC implementation to state officials. "Today's tour is just another example of how Harford County is preparing, and will be ready for the challenges and opportunities BRAC will bring to Harford County.

HARFORD COUNTY JOINS REGIONAL PARTNERSHIP TO ADDRESS BRAC
Harford County has formally joined forces with its neighboring counties and Baltimore City in order to work collectively as a region to prepare for the coming Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) which will bring thousands of new jobs to Aberdeen Proving Ground. The group has jointly created the Chesapeake Science and Security Corridor, which officially came into being at a formal signing of a Memo of Understanding which was signed by Harford County Executive David Craig, Baltimore County Executive Jim Smith, Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon and President of the Cecil County Commissioners William Manlove. The memorandum details how the jurisdictions involved will meet regularly and cooperate in sharing information.
"This is an exciting and challenging time to be an elected official in Maryland," said County Executive Craig. "This coalition is testament that the needs of any one of our jurisdictions are the needs of the entire region. Together, we can make sure we can have a strong technology and communication-based economy to support the military and their mission."
January 2007HARFORD COUNTY EXECUTIVE READY FOR BRAC ACTION PLAN
Harford County Executive, David R. Craig, is pleased to announce the achievement of another milestone in the county's preparation plans for BRAC. The County Executive is awaiting the impending release of the BPAC Action Plan that was formally endorsed by the full BRAC Planning and Advisory Commission (BPAC) January 29th at the HEAT Center in Aberdeen. The Action Plan will be used to advance Harford County into the BRAC Implementation Phase.
"I am proud of the work that BPAC has accomplished. The BPAC Action plan represents a broad collaboration among many subject experts, and will be used to steer our response to the opportunities and challenges facing the County," said Craig.
"The BPAC team was made up of a cross-section of the community with a wide-spectrum of expertise to explore actions necessary for implementation," said County Executive Craig. "The Town Hall Meetings will be an opportunity for even greater citizen collaboration that will help us best respond to the needs of our growing neighborhoods," he added.
August 2005CRAIG, SARBANES, MIKULSKI ANNOUNCE TRANSPORTATION UPGRADES TO MAKE HARFORD BRAC READY
U.S. Senators Paul S. Sarbanes and Barbara A. Mikulski recently announced that an agreement had been reached on a six-year transportation bill, which will provide $2.9 billion in federal highway funds and more than $900 million in dedicated mass transit funding for the State of Maryland. Priority Projects outlined in the multi-year spending bill include $1.5 million in upgrades for the Maryland Train Station inEdgewood adjacent to Aberdeen Proving Ground, and $8 million for the construction of an interchange from eastbound US Route 40 to northbound Maryland Route 715. The projects further prepare Maryland, and Harford County, to support Defense Base Closure and Realignment Commission recommendations made by the Department of Defense in May 2005.
"We applaud the efforts of Senators Sarbanes and Mikulski in obtaining transportation funds for Harford County," said Harford County Executive David R. Craig."Resolving access issues on the Perryman peninsula is a high priority of this administration and improving train usage at Edgewood helps relieve pressure on our roads."
July 2005COUNTY GEARS UP TO MEET BRAC IMPACT AT APG
The Harford County Office of Economic Development has partnered with the Maryland State Highway Administration and the Army Alliance, Inc. to pursue transportation and infrastructure improvements facilitating anticipated growth at Aberdeen Proving Ground. The collaboration is due in part to recent Department of Defense recommendations to create a large communications-electronics command at APG. The recommendation, which is under review by the Base Realignment and Closure Commission, would result in 5,000 new jobs at APG over the next four to six years.
