COUNTY EXECUTIVE CRAIG HONORS YOUNG PATRIOTS
Patriot Award season is in full swing at elementary schools throughout Harford County. Harford County Executive David R. Craig was on hand recently at Churchville Elementary School to present certificates of recognition to the select group of fifth graders who completed the many elements required to receive the recognition. The Patriot Awards Program takes place at every elementary school in the county during the fifth grade year. Only those students who satisfactorily complete each of the many elements are eligible to receive the award. "I take great pride and pleasure in attending as many of these Patriot Awards Programs as my schedule allows," said County Executive Craig. "These hard- working students represent our future here in Harford County, and I am assured that our future will rest in capable hands."

Craig Announces $143,000 for Joppatowne High School Homeland Security Program Harford County Executive David R. Craig announced additional funding of $143,000 for Joppatowne High School's Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness Program. The money, provided from the federal government, will help keep the program on the cutting edge and allow it to expand. SCHOOL BEAUTIFICATION GRANTS AWARDED TO TWO ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS
Harford County Executive David R. Craig has announced two School Beautification Grant Program awards. Riverside Elementary School in Joppatowne and Homestead - Wakefield Elementary School in Bel Air, each received an award from the grant program administered by the Department of Community Services. Riverside Elementary PTA received a $10,000 grant towards the upgrade and refurbishment of the primary playground.
Homestead -Wakefield Elementary School PTA received two grants totally $9,990. One award is $5,000 towards improvements for the lobby of the school, including painting, painting of a mural and furniture assembly to replace existing furniture. The second grant totally $4,990, is for the school courtyard landscaping project. "The School Beautification Grant Program is an excellent example of an effective government initiative that brings schools, the parent community and businesses together," stated County Executive Craig. "We commend the PTA of Riverside and Homestead -Wakefield Elementary Schools for their hard work and commitment to our children," Craig remarked.
September 2008FARM TO SCHOOL WEEK RECOGNIZED AT RING FACTORY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Harford County Executive David R. Craig, accompanied by Harford County Public Schools Chief Financial Officer John Markowski and members of the Board of Education, will recognize Farm to School Week on Friday, September 26 at Ring Factory Elementary. The county executive and Mr. Markowski will join students for lunch, which includes locally grown apples, plums and watermelons.
"Farming and agriculture have played a major role in this history and development of Harford County for more than a century," remarked County Executive David R. Craig. "It is fitting that the Harford County Public Schools help us acknowledge Farm to School Week with a lunch that includes locally grown agricultural products," the county executive stated. Students, faculty and staff will enjoy locally grown delicious apples from Wilson Mill Orchard, Shaws Orchard, Jones Produce and Wilson Farm Market.
May 2008COUNTY EXECUTIVE CRAIG ANNOUNCES GRANT FUNDING FOR MAGNOLIA ELEMENTARY
County Executive David R. Craig has announced an award of $10,000 for Magnolia Elementary School. The funds are part of the Department of Community Services School Beautification Grant Program. The grant will assist Magnolia Elementary School and the PTA in their efforts to replace aging playground equipment, specifically Pre-K equipment, which is not ADA compliant. Personnel from Harford County Public Schools Facilities Management will remove the current playground equipment. The refurbished playground must meet ADA standards and be accessible to those in wheelchairs.
"Since its inception several years ago, the School Beautification Grant Program has assisted dozens of schools throughout Harford County," stated County Executive Craig. "Hopefully, many more schools and school-based non-profit organizations will take advantage of this program," Craig remarked.
